The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that parents have their children seen for an orthodontic exam by age 7. At this age, the first permanent teeth have typically erupted and any issues with jaw growth or tooth eruption can be identified early on and addressed if necessary. Some problems require early intervention and are unable to be remedied after this early window of opportunity.

Early treatment can help normalize growth deficiences of the jaws, create better facial balance, improve bite and speech problems, aid in the eruption of permanent teeth, avoid the need for tooth extractions during future treatment, and improve tooth alignment and crowding issues. Often times treatment can be delayed until a later age and if so, Dr. Bacon will recommend postponing orthodontic care until a more appropriate time.

As always, consultations are free at Cascade Braces. We will provide you with all of the information you need to make a well informed decision for your child. If you have questions about your child's bite, teeth, or smile, contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Teens still make up the overall majority of orthodontic patients. By age 12, the last remaining adult teeth typically have erupted and comprehensive treatment can be initiated. Braces or Invisalign Teen can work to align the teeth into the most esthetic and functionally sound positions. While we invite every parent to have their child seen for a free consultation by age 7 (as recommended by the American Association of Orthodontists) to rule out any jaw growth or tooth eruption issues, most treatment can be postponed.
